Bereavement

The death sadly occurred on Tuesday, August 19 of Mrs. Monica Jacob (nee: Griffin). Late of Saint John’s Park, Waterford City, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Larry, son-in-law, Gerry, sister, May and her brother Jimmy. She is survived by her loving daughter, Toinette, sons, Peter and Paul and her daughter-in-law, Clodagh; she will be sadly missed by all her loving grandchildren, David, Rachel, Laura, Sally, Hannah, Ellen, Holly and her 6 great grandchildren. Monica will be remembered by her sisters, Theresa and Betty and a special mention for Helen and Julie, who will forever hold Monica in their hearts. Monica will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews, relatives, extended family, wonderful neighbours, and many friends in both St. John’s Park and Ballymacaw and all who knew and loved her in the Bridge Club. Monica will be sadly missed by all her relatives, extended family, neighbours, and wide circle of friends. Requiem Mass took place on Friday, August 22, at 10am at The Sacred Heart Church, The Folly Waterford. After which Monica was laid to rest in Butlerstown Cemetery. Condolences are extended to Monica's family, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Bereavement

The death sadly occurred on Saturday, August 16, of Mr. David Kelly Phibsborough, Dublin and formerly of Shandon Park, Kilkenny, and Cherrymount, Waterford. Predeceased by his loving father James (Jim), he is survived by his loving and heartbroken wife Susanne, mother Maura Kelly (Shandon Park), sister Edwina and her partner Raja, parents-in-law Jim and Margaret Crowe (Dublin), godsons Zach and Aongus, aunts, uncle, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousins, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. David will be sadly missed by all his relatives, extended family wide circle of friends. Requiem Mass took place August 20 at 10.30am in St. John's Church, Kilkenny with burial afterwards to Foulkstown Cemetery, Waterford Road, Kilkenny. Condolences are extended to David's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Bereavement Group 

The South East Regional Family Support Network bereavement support group provides a safe space for family members who have experienced the death of a loved one because of problem substance use or related issues. The group is facilitated by two trained psychotherapists and will include respite and other opportunities that may be relevant. This is a free service specific to the South East Family Support Network. Commencing on Tuesday, 26 of August 2025 from 10:30am to 12:00pm, and will continue for 8 weeks at the Millenium Building, Church Road, Lisduggan, Waterford, X91 FN5V. Whist Club 

Whist Club (card game) at the Butler Centre, St. John's Park is changed to Wednesdays at 7pm-9pm. They would love to see all their old players and new players would be most welcome €5 per person all new members welcome.

Singing Classes

Golden Girls Aerobics Fitness

Golden Girls aerobics Fitness in Butlers Community Hall. The price is €6, pay as you go on Mondays from 10.15am – 11am. Circuit training : All levels class that includes exercises to increase strength, improve coordination. History Talk

A historic talk, ‘The Mons Star Recipients in the Royal Irish Regiment’, will take place at Central Library Waterford on Wednesday, September 3, at 6.30pm. Meet authors Larry Scallan and Mary Anne Maher and hear about their recently published research into the Irish soldiers who received the Mons or the 1914 Star for service in the First World War, focusing especially on the young soldiers recruited from Waterford and the rest of the South East. The Mons Star, colloquially known as the Mons Star was awarded to officers and men who served during the first year of World War One (August 5 and November 22, 1914). All Welcome.
