Bereavement

The death sadly occurred on Wednesday, June 5, of Mr. Frankie Whelan, St Anne’s, Ursuline Court, Waterford, formerly of High Street, Waterford and late of Waterford Crystal. 

Predeceased by his loving parents Michael and Agnes, brothers Louie, Seanie and Bobby, sister Moyra (O’Toole). He is survived by his loving wife Joan, sons Stephen and Robin, daughter Emma, daughter-in-law Deborah, Stephen’s partner Leeona, Emma’s partner Kirk, grandchildren, Jade, Katie, Jamie, Cara, Jack, Conor, Eve and Libby, great-grandchildren Aine and JJ, sister Renee, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, especially Mary, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Frankie will be sadly missed by all his family, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass took place on Saturday, June  8, in Ballybricken Church at 11am followed by private cremation. 

Condolences are extended to Frankie's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Summer Stars Reading

Waterford Library Service will run the Summer Stars Reading Adventure in all library branches during the summer now until August 31. 

Each child is invited to register for the adventure at any library and will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their progress. At the end of the adventure, children return their reading card to their local Library. Waterford Library staff will visit schools in October to present the children with their Summer Stars medal and certificate of achievement.

Poetry Launch

The launch of an illustrated collection of minimalist poetry titled, 'View from my Window', written by Ger Rogers and illustrated by Anne McDonnell, will take place on Saturday, June 22, in Central Library, Lady Lane, at 3pm. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend, no booking required.

Creative Dance

Creative Dance for children aged 5 – 8 years will take place in Central Library to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg, on Saturday, June 15, at 10.30am. Come along to a Creative Dance Class with dance artist Rachel Ní Bhraonáin. This is a dance class for children who love to move and be creative and the hour will be fun of games and great songs. No previous dance experience is needed. Please wear trousers and tops you can move in and bring a bottle of water. Book your place by emailing centrallibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie 

Solas Cancer Support Centre

Solas Cancer Support Centre provides free, professional support services to those affected by cancer, their families and carers in the Waterford and West Waterford area. A wide range of services are available including: Counselling; Art Therapy; Acupuncture; Music Therapy; Reflexology; Reiki; Cranio Sacral therapy; Life Coaching; One to one supports for children and adolescents; Art Therapy; Music Therapy; Play Therapy and Counselling. Information sessions also take place Information Sessions Look good feel better information sessions will take place on Thursday, June 27, from 2pm to 4pm. A men's support group, facilitated and supported by a male counsellor. It includes outdoor activities of interest such as gardening, excursions, leisure interests. The group meets every Tuesday throughout the year from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The Solas Waterford choir meets on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Solas Retreat

The Solas Retreat at Mount Congreve will take place on Wednesday, June 27, for bereaved clients from 9.45am to 2pm.

Men's Health Week

Hey lads, it’s time to lace up those walking shoes! This Men’s Health Week, we’re teaming up with the Men's Development Network for a refreshing walk followed by a Health & Wellbeing Workshop, and we want you to join us.

The date is Thursday, June 13, and the time is 10.30am or 6.30pm. It will take place at the main gate of the People's Park. 

Whether you’re a seasoned walker or just fancy a stroll, come along for a bit of exercise, some craic, and a chance to support each other’s health and well-being. All ages and fitness levels welcome. Arts and Crafts

Mindful Art & Craft Workshops in The Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Kilcohan,will take place on Thursday afternoons, from 1pm to 3pm, starting on June 13. 

The workshops will include rocking painting, mono printing, collage painting, mixed media, recycled fabric, and craft junk journaling. No experience required anyone over 18 is welcome, however, spaces are limited to sign up for free or for more information call Elaine on 051 306728.

Summer Camp

Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre will be hosting a Kids Summer Camp for the month of July.

We will be running the camp for kids aged 8 to 12 years. The programme will run four days a week, Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 2pm and the cost will be €45 per week.

Starting week from July 1 to 4, July 8 to 11, July 15 to 18 and also July 22 to 25. Places are limited so early registration is advised. For further information ring Anne on 051 306728.

Baking Classes

Registration is now open for baking classes in the Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, funded under the WWETB Reach Fund. 

This is an eight-week programme that will start on Monday, July 20, from 10am to 12pm. If you like baking then why not join us in the Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Waterford. Places are limited so ring to secure your place today on 051 306728.

Car Boot Sale

The Butler Community Centre Car Boot Sale will be held monthly, on the last Saturday of every month. 

The next one will take place on Saturday, June 22, from 11.30am to 3.30pm in Butler Community Centre, St John’s Park, Ballytruckle, Waterford (X91 FEP4).

Whist Club

Whist Club (card game) takes place at the Butler Community Centre, St. John's Park on Tuesday’s at 7.30pm. 

They would love to see all their old players and new players would be most welcome. The cost is €5 per person.

Shy Project

The Shy Project needs volunteer at the moment. Join our volunteer team and what's needed is genuine care for and belief in young people for a two-and-a-half hour weekly commitment. 

A wonderful opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young people in the Sacred Heart Community. What we do: Developmental group work with young people aged from 10 to 24years and a homework club in partnership with Scoil Lorcain School.
