Local Notes: Set dancing, runners club, lotto and more

Well done to the ladies from the Touraneena Runner’s Club who completed the Ballinroad 5k in high temperatures recently.

The late Michael O'Grady

It was with profound sadness that news of the sudden passing of Michael O’Grady, Skeheens, at the age of 54 years, was received in the Parish last week. Michael is pre-deceased by his parents Edmond and Mary. We extend our sincere sympathy to his brother William, sisters Helen, Norah and Martha, sister-in-law Kaye, brothers-in-law Paul and Aidan, nephews Sam, Adam, Luke and Conor, niece Emma, extended family, neighbours and friends. Funeral mass for Michael was in St. Mary’s Church, Touraneena, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May Michael rest in peace.

Sliabh gCua Set Dancing Club

A huge well done and congratulations to all our dancers who took to the stage last Saturday in the Waterford County Fleadh in Ballyduff. The club was represented in all the age categories from Mol an Óige right up to the 15-18 year category. We are so proud of all our dancers who represented the club. It was great to have Monnie present and supporting us on the day.

The Munster Fleadh will take place on Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18, and we wish all our dancers the very best of luck.

The club is also delighted to announce that the club’s long held tradition of visiting our friends and neighbours in Liverpool will take place this year from June 28 to July 1. The Sliabh gCua Set Dancing Club first made the trip in 1978 when Monnie, Breda and their family, along with families from the set club, first crossed the water to Liverpool, building friendships and bonds that still continue to this day. It is always a fabulous weekend of music and dance enjoyed by all.

Runners Club

Well done to the ladies from the Touraneena Runner’s Club who completed the Ballinroad 5k in high temperatures recently.
