Local Notes: Pilgrimage, community and voluntary awards, local lotto, afternoon tea and more

Stradbally Market is very popular among the many things taking place in the village.
The Legion of Mary will be holding their Annual Pilgrimage to Knock again this year with the event taking place on Sunday, September 28. The total cost of the trip will be €65. A bus will depart from The Square in Dungarvan at 6am on the morning of the pilgrimage. Anyone who would like to join or who requires further information is invited to contact Mary Kelly at either of the following numbers: 058 42775 or 087 7953932. All are welcome to take part in this spiritual journey.
The market was very busy on Saturday as visitors flocked to the village for Heritage Week events at Woodhouse Estate, the GAA Club’s Harley Davidson Rally preparations, and trips to the beach. Fresh produce, brown bread, scones, tarts, buns, cakes, and jams sold quickly at the Cove Bar. To avoid disappointment, pre-order with Margaret at 087 6337215 and collect on the day. The producers will return to the Cove Bar next Saturday at 10am.
It will be of great interest to all local voluntary groups that the 21st Waterford Community & Voluntary Awards were officially launched at The Park Hotel, Dungarvan, earlier this month. Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Mayor of Waterford City & County Council, Cllr John Pratt, praised the work of the PPN, saying: "Waterford has a proud tradition of volunteering and community action. It is what connects our towns, neighbourhoods, and rural areas, and through the PPN, over 780 groups are working together to shape a better, more inclusive, and more vibrant Waterford." The Waterford PPN Community & Voluntary Awards are the only awards in Waterford dedicated to recognising the commitment and positive impact of our community and voluntary sector. The award categories and prizes are: Children & Youth, Community Safety, Environment & Conservation, Health & Wellbeing, Spick & Span/Best Kept Residential, and Social Enterprise, Social Inclusion & Community Support. Prizes include €700 for each category winner, and €300 each for two runners-up per category. Individual voluntary awards include: Junior Volunteer of the Year, Age-Friendly Volunteer of the Year, and Board/Committee Member of the Year - each with a Crystal Award & Certificate of Achievement. Volunteer nominations are now being accepted and can be submitted online. Group Nominations: Know of a group going above and beyond in your community? The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, September 3. For more details go to visit www.waterfordppn.ie or call 058 21198, or email waterfordppn@gmail.com.
As part of its fundraising campaign to fund future developments, Stradbally GAA moved to a Weekly Lotto Draw. Last Monday’s draw had no winner, and the lucky dip winner of €50 was Aoife Cunningham. Congratulations to Aoife. Last week’s lotto numbers were 5, 8, 35, 38. The notes are sent to the media on Monday afternoons, so Monday night’s draw result is not printed until the following week, but it is available on the club's Facebook page. The initial Jackpot was €1,000 and increased by a further €100 each week to €1,200 this Monday, as it has not been won, with a weekly prize of €50 for the lucky dip winner, on weeks that the lotto is not won. Once won, the lotto will revert again to the €1,000.
The Stradbally Ladies Football Club is hosting an afternoon tea in Woodhouse Walled Garden on Saturday, September 6, from 2pm to 4pm. Tickets are priced at €40pp and must be booked in advance. Please message 087 9490994 to book tickets.
