Sympathy

We extend our sympathy to the Walsh family, Scart, Modeligo, on the recent passing of Chrissie Walsh (née: Nugent). Chrissie was well known far and wide as the proprietor of Deckie’s Bar, Modeligo, and she will be sadly missed. Chrissie was predeceased by her husband Declan (Deckie) Walsh, daughter Mary, infant son and daughter. We extend our sincere sympathy to her daughters Siobhán, Christine and Shelly, sister Kitty O’Dwyer, sons-in-law Pat Troy, Tomás Curran, and Derek Kelly, grandchildren Mary-Kate, Mickey-Joe, Deuglán and Alison, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Funeral mass for Chrissie was in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Modeligo, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Runners' Club

The Touraneena Runner’s Club, 'Colm Ryan Memorial 5km Run', in memory of the late Colm Ryan will be held on Sunday, September 15. The run will start from the Sliabh gCua Community Centre at 11am. Colm was a champion of the Irish Cancer Society and raised substantial money for this worthy cause before his untimely passing in April, 2023. All proceeds from the run will be in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. If you would like more information please go to event link online at https://eventmaster.ie/event/o7kMsk3tLm or the QR link at: https://eventmaster.ie/event/o7kMsk3tLm/qrcode.

In the lead up to Colm’s Memorial Run we have decided to run 'Predict Your Time' for four weeks, which will bring us right up to the event. Starting from the track at Kirwan Park, Touraneena, at 7pm, every Monday night, the cost will be €2 per night and the format is the same as before. The clock starts counting down at 7pm for 45mins. If you think the 4k Route will take you 45mins, you start the course at 7pm, if you think the route will take you 30mins, you start at 7.15pm etc. This is a great way to get some practice in before the event and we would love to see as many as possible at the track. This Monday nights 'Predict Your Time' cash prize is kindly sponsored by Richard Whitmore Painting & Decorating.

Cúl Camp

As usual, the Naomh Bríd Cúl Camp was a great success and all the girls and boys had a fabulous week. Thank you to Fionnula McGrath for another great event and a big thank you also to all who attended and to the parents and guardians of all the children. Without your assistance the camp would not have been such a great success. We’re already looking forward to next year.

Sympathy

We extend our sympathy to the Ahearn family on the recent passing of Michael Ahearn, Bohadoon. Michael was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Annie, brothers Matt and Tom and his sisters Mary, Nellie and Chris. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Kathleen, god-daughter Aoife, nephew Paul, brother John, sister Kitty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. Riddle of the Week

Last week’s riddle was: A limo driver is going the wrong way down a one-way street. He goes past four Garda Síochána along the way, yet none of them stop him. One even smiled and waved. Why didn’t the Gardaí stop him?

Answer: The limo driver was not driving, he was walking.

This week’s riddle is: If two’s company and three’s a crowd, what are four and five?

Answer in this column next week.
