Bereavement 

The death sadly occurred on Thursday, August 1, of Mrs Ann Hearne (née: Rea), Laurel Park, Cherrymount, Waterford and formerly of St Carthage’s Avenue, Barrack’s Street. Predeceased by her son loving Darren, brothers Michael, Paddy, Noel and Gerard, and sister Eileen she is survived by her loving husband Jack, sons and daughters, Ian, Lorraine and Siobhán, daughters-in-law Susan and Kate, son-in-law Robbie, best friend to her sisters Lucy and Maria and was an amazing Nanny to her 14 grandkids. Ann will be sadly missed by all her relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends. Condolences are extended to Ann's family, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Bereavement

The death sadly occurred on Sunday, August 4, of Mr Trevor Walsh, late of Crystal Court, Kilcohan, and formerly of The Square, St. John’s Park, Waterford. Predeceased by his loving parents Eileen and Pat, he is survived by his loving wife Sonja, his beloved daughter Kaitlin, sister Deirdre and brother Derek, aunts Kathleen and Bridget, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends. Trevor will be sadly missed by all his family, relatives, neighbours and friends Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday, August 7, in The Sacred Heart Church, The Folly at 2pm, followed by burial afterwards in St. Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh. Condolences are extended to Trevor's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Be Healed Retreat

The Sacred Heart Church, 'Be Healed Retreat', will run from Friday, August 30, at 9am to September 1, at 3.30pm. It will take place at Glencomeragh House, Kilsheelan, Co Tipperary (E91H584) and will be led by Fr Patrick Cahill. There will be daily Mass, Benediction and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, themed talks, reflection time, prayer ministry, confessions and Healing Service on Saturday night with anointing of the sick blessing. The cost, with full board accommodation will be €270 and bookings can be made through www.holyfamilymission.ie or email info@holyfamilymission.ie. Alternatively, phone 052 613318.

Relics of St Bernadette

A very special event will take place in the Diocese on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 17 and 18, when the relics of St Bernadette will visit the Diocese and a programme of events will be held in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity over the two days. More details to follow.

Charity Bingo

Bingo in aid of the Parkinson's Association will be held every Monday evening in the Butler Community Centre. Eyes down at 7.45pm and the cost will be €8 per book. All are welcome.

Whist Club

A Whist Club takes place at the Butler Community Centre, St. John's Park, on Tuesday’s at 7.30pm. They would love to see all their old players and new players go along. The cost is €5 per person.

Basket Weaving 

Basket Weaving

Heritage Week runs from August 17 to 25 and in Central Library there will be a craft demonstration featuring Basket Weaving with Cathy Hayden. Find out more about the traditional skill of basket weaving with a demonstration from local Tramore basket maker, Cathy who did her apprenticeship in basketmaking at Shanahan’s workshop in Carrick-on-Suir’s, Chapel Street, in the early 1980s. She has been a Waterford Crafts member for nearly 30 years. From her studio in Drumcannon, in Tramore, Cathy runs basketry workshops for beginners and grows her own willow for all her baskets. The event will take place in Central library on Wednesday, August 21, from 3pm to 4pm. This will be a free event but booking is required. Blue Plaque Talk

A talk on 'The Heritage Blue Plaques of Waterford City & County', by Marcus Copley, in conjunction with Waterford Civic Trust will take place in Central Library on Thursday, August 22, at 3pm. Join Marcus for a journey through some of the stories behind Heritage Blue Plaque recipients and delve into the rich social and general history of Waterford City and County. It will be a vibrant exploration of our heritage you won’t want to miss. This will be a free event but is required through 051 849975 or centrallibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie

Map Making for Children

A Map Making Craft Workshop for children will take place in Central Library as part of National Heritage Week, on Friday, August 23, from 11am. Connect the past, present and future with a fun Map Making Craft Workshop and participants will get to create their very own fold-out map. With lots of inspiration from both old and new maps, you will be able to create a futuristic Waterford City, the setting to your favourite book or imagine up an entirely new place. The event will be suitable for children aged 8 to 10. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

Creative Writing

Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre would love you to join us for our Creative Writing Programme starting on Thursday, September 12. The programme will run for 10 weeks and will take place from 11am to 1pm. The programme is free to attend and is funded by WWETB Adult & Community Education, facilitated by Derek Flynn. Homework Club

The Shy Project, Waterford & South Tipperary Community Youth Service, are seeking volunteers. All you need is one or two hours weekly commitment to join the club. The club offers homework support for primary school boys on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 2.30pm to  3.30pm. This is an opportunity to develop relationships with the younger generation in your community and make a positive impact on their lives.
