Local Notes: Birthday celebrations, school awards and much more in West Waterford's Touraneena

St. Mary’s National School pupils presented with their soccer certificates. From Left to Right, Misha, John Mike, Rowan and Tomás

Congratulations to Fr. Colm O'Ryan, Beverly Hills, California and formerly of Ballymacarbry who celebrated his 96th birthday recently in his parish of the Good Shepherd, Beverly Hills. We wish Fr Ryan the best of health and happiness for the future.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Waterford Viking Marathon. A great achievement by all. Noel Drohan started a training plan with us on April 11 this year and since then we have grown immensely as a club.

What an effort everyone has given and we are only just getting started. Plenty of more 5ks, 5 miles and 10ks to come. A massive thank you to Noel, his dedication every single week has been amazing. To see people going from walking to jogging, from 5ks to half marathons, we couldn't have asked for a better man to coach us!
If you want to be part of our running group please send us a message on our Touraneena Runner’s Club Facebook page and we can add you in. All are welcome.

Our final dance class before the summer break took place recently - what a fantastic year it’s been.
We’ve loved watching our younger students grow week by week making new friends, learning new steps, and building their confidence with every class. We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them and all they’ve achieved this year.

To celebrate, we ended the term with some well-deserved treats and prizes and a huge congratulations to Ella, who was awarded our Dancer of the Year.
Thank you to all our dancers and families for your support throughout the year. Enjoy the summer break and we can’t wait to welcome you all back in September.
We extend our sympathy to the Walsh and O’Grady families on the recent passing of Catherine (Cáit) Walsh (née O’Grady), Kilnafrehan East, Dungarvan and formerly of Tinalira, Ballinamult. Cáit is predeceased by her husband Patrick (Paddy) Walsh, daughter Patricia, parents Martin and Bridget O’Grady, brother John O’Grady and his wife Carmel, sister Nell Whelan and her husband John and son-in-law Christy Campbell.
We extend our sincere sympathy to her sons James, Martin and Pat, daughters Catherine, Bridget, Marian, Eileen and Ann-Marie, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Funeral mass for Cáit was in St. Gobnait’s Church, Kilgobinet, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May Cáit rest in peace.
The jackpot numbers drawn on June 22 were 9, 27, 30 and there was no winner. The 5 x €20 winners were Declan Fitzpatrick, Logan Bourke, Ger and Carmel Myles, Una Power and John and Judith Dalton. The promoter’s prize of €20 was won by Thomas Keane. Next week’s jackpot draw will be for €600.
Our half-yearly lotto ticket options will be up for renewal at the end of June. The half-yearly option is a great chance to ensure your ticket is in the weekly draw and even better still – you are purchasing your ticket at a reduced price. To purchase or renew your ticket, please contact any committee or club member. Your support is very much appreciated.
Congratulations to Stephen Coffey and the Waterford Minor hurlers on their All-Ireland victory over Clare in Semple Stadium Thurles on June 28.
The big draw for the Waterford G.A.A. ‘Win A House’ fundraising initiative on July 28 is fast approaching. Don’t miss your chance to win a stunning three-bedroom semi-detached home in Kilbarry, Waterford City, or choose instead a generous cash alternative of €335,000.
When purchasing your ticket online, be sure to select “Sliabh gCua/St. Mary’s” from the drop-down menu. This ensures €30 from your ticket goes directly to support our local club.
If you don’t choose the club when purchasing your ticket, the funds won’t go to Sliabh gCua/St. Mary’s. Tickets cost €100 per ticket and can be purchased at https://winahouseinwaterford.com

Thank you to Orla Hickey, Waterford Senior Camogie player, for presenting our girls team with their Roinn D medals recently. Orla was very impressed with the team’s incredible achievement of winning four years in a row and spoke to the girls about the importance of continuing to practice their skills and encouraged them to stick with Camogie, especially as some prepare for the big move to secondary school.
Also well done to the winning soccer team of our recent tournament who were awarded with certificates as follows:
Golden Boot: John Mike – for scoring the most goals.
Best Goal: Tomás Lonergan – a last second winner for his team.
Best Volley: Rowan Power – a stunning strike straight into the net.
Player’s Player Award: Misha – chosen by players for effort and teamwork.
