There were scenes of great celebration recently in Waterford when the Mahon Valley Active Retirement Association (ARA) held its dinner event in the Sweep, in Kilmeaden.

Those in attendance enjoyed a wonderful four-course meal and after the dinner everyone enjoyed a session of songs and recitations.

Tom Murphy began the performances with, 'The Touch of The Masters Hand' and Jim O'Byrne gave a lovely rendition of 'The Rose of Tralee'.

There was a great reception for the organisation's most senior couple, Jack and Agnes Collins, who sang three songs. Agnes performed 'Working Man' and 'Put More Turf on the Fire Mary Anne' and Jack followed that with, 'On Moonlight Bay'.

One of those who was in attendance and who is involved with the group commented: "We have a couple of good singers in the group and we all joined in the sing song."

Towards the end of the evening the ARA Chairman, Tom Murphy wished everyone a Happy Christmas, a healthy New Year and safe journey home.
