Waterford Memory Walks for World Alzheimer’s Day

Waterford Alzheimer's Memory Walks are supported by Aviva.
On Saturday, September 21, Waterford will host two Memory Walks in honour of World Alzheimer’s Day.
The Waterford events will be held at SETU Arena in Waterford City, and Dungarvan, bringing together families, friends and communities to walk in solidarity with the 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland and to honour those who are sadly no longer with us.
People in Waterford City and Dungarvan are encouraged to join in on the walks, which are sponsored by Aviva.
Local Champion, Marie Smyth will lead the Waterford City Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, starting at 11am from the SETU Arena. The community will be invited to gather and walk a 2km scenic route by the River Suir with a longer option also available. Marie said: "I can’t wait to breathe in that fresh river air, swap laughter and stories, and feel our community’s warmth. We’ll walk for those living with dementia, honour loved ones we’ve lost and raise vital funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.”
In Dungarvan, National Community Engagement Manager for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Cathryn O’Leary will lead the Memory Walk and is calling for the community to get involved. She said: "Let’s make this year’s Dungarvan Memory Walk the biggest and best yet by coming together to mark World Alzheimer’s Day and walking to support those living with dementia and their families and carers and remember those who are sadly no longer with us."
