The organisers of the SpeakEasy open mic poetry nights in Waterford City are busying themselves getting ready for the final night of the year.

Patrick Cotter, a well-known poet who is the Director of Munster Literature Centre in Cork, is the featured poet for the final SpeakEasy literary event of 2025, which takes place on Friday, November 21, at 8pm in Phil Grimes Pub in Waterford City.

Cotter has published many books of poetry, most recently 'Quality Control at the Miracle Factory', published this year by Dedalus Press.

He has won many poetry prizes, including the Keats-Shelley Prize, and his poems have appeared in the London Review of Books, The Financial Times and numerous other anthologies.

Music on the night will be provided by Cilian Jacob, who is well-known on the Waterford music scene for his versatility and style. 

Local writers are invited to take part in the open mic section, which is open to writers at all stages in their writing lives.

SpeakEasy is sponsored by the Arts Office of Waterford City and County Council, with support from The Granville Hotel and Phil Grimes Pub. 

Entry is €5 on the door, cash only.
