Shakespeare, Fleetwood Mac tribute and grunge among Waterford's October entertainment

Waterford audiences will have plenty to choose from this October, with Shakespeare on the big screen, the music of Fleetwood Mac and a celebration of 1990s grunge all featuring in the city's entertainment calendar.
Theatre Royal Waterford will welcome Shakespeare Squared, its Artists in Residence, for a special screening of Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing on Thursday, October 8, at 7.30pm.
The 1993 film, adapted from William Shakespeare's comedy, is the first of three classic Shakespeare screen adaptations selected by the company for the autumn and winter months.
Before the film begins, Shakespeare Squared will give audiences a short introduction explaining why they selected the adaptation and how it connects with the company's plans.
Much Ado About Nothing explores love, deception, misunderstandings and, of course, plenty of Shakespearean wit.
At the heart of the story is the memorable relationship between Beatrice and Benedick, whose sharp exchanges and reluctance to admit their feelings have helped make the comedy an enduring favourite.
The October screening will be followed by Chimes at Midnight on Thursday, November 12, while Baz Luhrmann's distinctive Romeo + Juliet will round off the series on Monday, December 7.
All three screenings begin at 7.30pm, with tickets for Much Ado About Nothing priced at €10.
For those more interested in live music, Fleetwood Mac fans will also have something to look forward to when tribute act Mack Fleetwood brings its Never Break The Chain show to Waterford's Theatre Royal on October 18 at 8pm.
Described as one of Europe's leading Fleetwood Mac tribute acts, Mack Fleetwood takes audiences on a journey through the band's long musical history, from the blues sound of the Peter Green era to the hugely successful later years of the group.
The show promises renditions of some of Fleetwood Mac's best-known songs, celebrating the music that has kept generations of listeners hooked.
Tickets are priced at €32.50.
October 10 will also offer something considerably heavier for fans of alternative music, as The Year Grunge Broke comes to Bank Lane in Waterford city from 8pm to 11.30pm.
The show is dedicated to the grunge and alternative rock explosion of the 1990s and features music associated with some of the era's biggest bands.
Fans can expect a night celebrating the sounds of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, The Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine and Screaming Trees, among others.
The Year Grunge Broke has performed across Ireland, the UK and Europe and has built up a substantial following online.
With music from Fleetwood Mac, the 1990s' greatest grunge bands and one of the world's most beloved playwrights, Waterford has plenty of things to look forward to this coming October.
