Imelda May to star in upcoming play in Waterford on the life of Kathleen Behan

Imelda May

Based on the book by Brian Behan, Imelda May will be starring in 'Mother Of All The Behans' in an evening of songs and stories celebrating the life of Kathleen Behan.

Kathleen presided over one of the most brilliant and controversial families of modern Ireland, telling a fascinating record of a remarkable life.

Inspired by the songs and stories handed down through generations, this retelling is an entertaining journey through the social history of Dublin and the Behan family history.

From the book written by Brian Behan, the show is adapted and directed for the stage by Peter Sheridan, with additional material by Rosaleen Linehan.

The show has become a hit nationally, following sold out performances last summer in Dublin.

Speaking ahead of her sold out run last year, Imelda May said: "I’m over the moon to get to reprise my role of Brendan Behan's extraordinary mother Kathleen in Peter Sheridan’s incredible one woman play 'Mother Of All the Behans'. I hold Kathleen’s story very close to my heart as I do all the women’s stories that have shaped the world but are too often unspoken about."

Performances take place from August 5 to August 9. Tickets available at theatreroyal.ie
