Food walking tour launching in Waterford City

Tasteful Tours
The Tasteful Tour, a daytime walking food tour will soon be launching for the Spring/Summer season in Waterford City.
The tour will invite guests to indulge in lunchtime bites paired with local history and culture in the city, giving visitors an experience filled with the tantalising tastes of Waterford while its fascinating food culture and history showcase the county’s gastronomic delights.
On the tour, visitors will also get the chance to interact with hospitality staff to hear their stories while getting to taste their food offerings.
Owner of Tasteful Tours, and tour guide, Sinéad explained: “Tasteful Tours is a project that I dreamt up while studying for a Masters in Gastronomy and Food Studies in TU Dublin.
“On the train commute from Waterford to Dublin, I’d write notes to myself about Waterford’s food scene, and I’d blog about the food offering”.
The tour has been in the works since 2018, and Sinead said that it was the perfect opportunity to introduce visitors to Waterford's culinary culture whilst also promoting local businesses:
“As far back as 2018, I called around to food business owners in the city to see what their feedback was on getting involved in a tour. I thought to myself, I should do something to help promote local food and the efforts of local food business owners.
“I suppose back then, I didn’t have the time to launch it as I was trying to finish my thesis. However, I continued to develop it as the idea wouldn’t leave me”.
The first Tasteful Tour launched at the Waterford Harvest Festival last September and received positive feedback from festivalgoers and locals.
As an independent and sustainable tour, Sinéad added that she believes the future of food tourism is bright in Ireland, particularly when it comes to sustainable food and eco tours.
She said that she is confident this specific food tour offering for Waterford City is a progressive factor, one that impacts positively on economic growth and as an additional tourism asset while showcasing local food and heritage aspects.
The tours will take place on Thursdays and Fridays starting at 11am and running until 2pm in the city centre.
