enor Dean Power and pianist James Hurley will enchant Waterford audiences with poetic music on Friday 21 February

Classical music organisation Waterford Music, is bringing tenor Dean Power to Waterford for its first spring concert of the year.

Dean will sing a repertoire of songs inspired by great Irish writers, composed and arranged by pianist James Hurley, who will accompany Dean on the night. Highlights will include settings of Moore's Melodies and James Hurley's own arrangement of Yeats's poem, 'The Salley Gardens'.

Following nine years as an ensemble member at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Irish tenor Dean Power is firmly establishing himself as a solo guest artist on the international stage.

Born in Clarecastle, Clare, he studied in Dublin with Mary Brennan and repetiteur Mairead Hurley at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and D.I.T. Conservatory of Music and Drama.

He graduated from the Bayerische Staatsoper Opera Studio at the end of the 2011-12 season before becoming a full member of the ensemble.

Dean has a vast repertoire of career highlights and performances across the world.

On the concert platform, Dean sang Handel’s, 'Messiah' in Limerick, performed a solo recital at the Castleconnell Autumn Concert Series, and joined the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, for the premiere of 'Civil War Oratorio', a new work by Irish composer Anne-Marie O’Farrell, written to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the Irish Civil War.

In 2017, Dean was awarded the Festspielpreis by the Friends and Sponsors of the Bayerische Staatsoper Festival.

The concert will take place at the Medieval Museum in Waterford City at 7.30pm on Friday 21 February.  Tickets are available from waterford-music.org and on the night at the door.
