Waterford 3-1 Wexford

The WDWSL U16 squad hosted the Wexford League on Friday night under the lights at Ozier Park and they made it a winning start with a composed performance. Waterford went straight on the attack from the kick off with Ruby Norris and Sadie Walsh combining to send Aanya Nair down the left wing. Nair beat her marker and whipped in a dangerous cross that Bradshaw in the Wexford goal spilled and at the back post Zoe O Sullivan was perfectly placed to capitalise and score. Waterford continued to force the play with Norris in particular dominating the midfield area. Having come close on a couple of occasions Waterford doubled their lead before the half time whistle when Ella Casey capitalised on indecision in the away defence and she fired home from just inside the penalty area. The second period saw Waterford create further opportunities with Norris, O Regan & Phelan all carving out chances but Bradshaw was equal to their efforts. With ten minutes remaining Wexford halved the deficit when Chloe Kelly Doyle spun O Connor on the edge of the box and fired in the bottom right hand corner past Lalor-Carroll. The last word though would go to the hosts as in the seventy nineth minute Frances McCann slipped in Megan O Regan who calmly slotted past Bradshaw to ensure the win for Waterford.
