After their hard earned 2-1 win over Cockhill Celtic in the last Friday's Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup tie at the RSC, Waterford FC will be at home in the round of last 16 after Keith Long's side drew Athlone Town with the game to take place on the weekend of Sunday, August 18.

Goals from Gbemi Arubi and Ryan Burke gave the Blues the win on Friday against non-league opposition and now they'll face SSE Airtricity Men's First Division side Athlone with the game likely to be played on Friday, August 16.

The Blues will fancy themselves against an Athlone Town side that overcame the challenge of non-league side Ringmahon Rangers in the last round thanks to a goal from Brian Torre.

Athlone currently sit second in the league table in the First Division and have played the Blues in the cup in the last couple of years with a 4-4 draw at the Athlone Town Stadium before the Blues won on penalties. The last meeting of the two sides at the RSC saw Romeo Akachukwu score a second-half treble in the second-leg of the First Division playoff last season.

The key ties in the third round will see Shelbourne entertain Galway and Cork City host Derry City. Bohemians travel to Kerry, Drogheda United face non-league Wilton, and Sligo Rovers take on UCD.
