Waterford FC have announced the signing of 19-year-old attacking winger Josh Miles from English League One club Blackpool on an 18-month contract, with the youngster arriving on Suirside in recent weeks.
Miles was part of the Steven Gerrard Academy in his early years of his career, tipped as one of the hottest Non-League prospects in Liverpool at the time. Here, he combined his education studies with his football dream, as he earned a move to Southport after completing his studies.
The 19-year-old started his career with AFC Liverpool before making the move to Southport at the end of 2022 from the Steven Gerrard Academy. Josh made 15 appearances for Southport in the National League North at just 16 years of age before joining Blackpool FC’s U18 side ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Miles spent 12 months with Blackpool, playing various times for the Development Squad as well as finishing the season as the Under-18’s top goal scorer.
He then made the loan move to National League North side Warrington Town ahead of the 2024/25 season, scoring a hat-trick on his debut for the club. The Liverpudlian played 19 times for the Yellows, scoring twice in National League North.
Miles then made the loan move to FC United of Manchester for the second-half of the 2024/25 season, as he now makes the permanent switch to the Blues on an 18-month deal.
The pacey winger will add to John Coleman’s options out wide for the second-half of our 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division season, where he will look to play an important part in our side.
After spending time in recent weeks in training already with the Blues, Josh also travelled to Galway for last Friday’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Speaking on his arrival at the Blues, Miles said: “I’m delighted to be here – I’ve really enjoyed my time so far. You can see the quality in the squad. I’m looking forward to getting started, and hopefully we can have a strong end to the season.”
