The Woodlands Hotel in Waterford was the venue on Friday evening last for the Waterford and District Junior League awards evening, where the league trophies, leading goalscorers and player of the year accolades were presented.

At the time of the awards, six leagues were yet to be completed due to recent inclement weather that disrupted the final weeks of fixtures, with the season set to be completed in the coming week.

There’s no doubting that the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Premier League trophy, where Villa captain Luke Walsh received the cup after another remarkable year for the workLAB Connors Park club.

They would go on to win the Division 1A and 1B league titles over the course of last weekend, an extraordinary feat that saw them win the top three divisions in the local league.

In the player of the year awards, Villa’s Aaron O’Connor was named Premier player of the year, with De La Salle’s Ivan Sinnott winning Division 1A player of the year, and Adam Heaslip claiming the Division 1B player of the year accolade.

It came as no surprise that Dean Walsh landed the league goalscoring award with 34 goals in the top division. Jeff Da Silva won the Division 1A leading goalscorer award over the weekend, with Jamie Burns winning the Division 1B leading goalscorer.

Carrick United secretary Debbie Torpey and St. Saviour’s treasurer Bobby Kennedy received the special recognition awards for 2025.
