Tramore were bounced out of the Munster U17 Cup by Pike Rovers of Limerick in the rain and wind-lashed Ben Wadding Park on Sunday afternoon last. Pike hit five goals with star man Dylan Kett hitting four.

Tramore gave themselves a mountain to climb by conceding twice inside the opening ten minutes, with Kett hitting a brace. The Seasiders fought back bravely, but the gap was too much to bridge, and at the end of the ninety minutes, it was the visitors who prevailed and progressed to the next round.

AN EARLY SHOCK

The game had just crossed into the 2nd minute when Pike took the lead when a free kick by Sean Dunphy saw the ball drop between the goalkeeper and the Tramore defence, and with nobody claiming the ball, Dylan Kett stole in to score from six yards.

The visitors doubled their lead four minutes later. Dylan Browne got away down the right, and his cross found Aaron McNamara, who set up Dylan Kett to drill a low shot past the unsighted Noah McDonald in the Tramore goal.

Tramore went close to pulling a goal back on 10 minutes when a corner by Eoin Farrell bounced off the top of the crossbar. Minutes later, Darby Sheridan was unlucky to see his left foot strike the fly wide of the far post.

On 14 minutes, Tramore pulled a goal back. Darby Sheridan whipped in a right-wing strike that Ben Wallace saved, but Ruari Brennan fired home the rebound. Tramore needed an equaliser, but on 33 minutes, it was Pike who should have gone further ahead.

Bryan Marbouana found himself in space at the Tramore back post, but he shot wide of an open goal. Tramore had two wonderful chances to level just before half time, on 32 minutes Jack Dillon drove in a cross, but from six yards Eoin Farrell side footed over the top, minutes later Conor Cleary crossed to the far post, but from a good position Darby Sheridan headed over.

HOPES DASHED

Things got worse for Tramore on 49 minutes as they fell further behind. Preston Humphries crossed low into the box, and the Tramore defence failed to pick up Dylan Kett, who slammed home his hat-trick from fourteen yards.

With 58 minutes on the clock, Pike scored goal number four as Tramore made a mess of a goalmouth clearance, and when the ball fell to the unmarked Dylan Kett, he volleyed the ball into the far corner of the net.

On the hour mark, it was five-one. Tramore lost the ball coming out of defence, and Dylan Browne took full advantage with a right-foot strike from the edge of the box. Tramore pulled a goal back on 77 minutes. Charlie Smyth clipped in a free kick from the left, and Jack Dillon rose above the Pike defence to send a header into the roof of the net. Tramore continued to push forward, but they ran out of time.
