AFTER EXTRA-TIME 

Dungarvan United claimed the 65th playing of the WSFL Pen an Brush Under 14A Cup final as extra-time goals gave them a deserved victory over league champions Bohemians in their decider played at Graun Park on Saturday afternoon last.

There was a big chance for the Ben Wadding Park outfit to take the lead on nine minutes when Nathan Power went on a brilliant run that took him past three tackles, but after his left-footed shot was superbly saved by keeper Ronan Sullivan, Daire Herlihy couldn’t convert the close-range rebound.

It was the turn of the Bohemians keeper Maciej Ozog to keep Dungarvan at bay with a top save on 21 minutes when Kristupas Narkevicius whipped in a left-wing free-kick that was touched onto the back post for Callum King, but the netminder got a vital touch that put it out for a corner-kick that was cleared.

GUIRY THE THREAT

Dungarvan went close to the breakthrough goal on 31 minutes before the sound of the half-time whistle when Denis Horgan split the Bohs defence that Evan Guiry clear on the right-side, but his low left-footed shot was superbly saved by keeper Maciej Ozog.

The threat that Guiry down the left-side a minute later when he took a pass from James Ferncombe, but he fired a left-footed angled effort over the bar before Tiernan Wall got space for himself down the right-side only for his effort to be saved by the legs of keeper Ozog.

Guiry was just off target with the first chance of the second-half on 41 minutes as he flashed a left-footed shot over the bar before another big chance came their way six minutes later. Tiernan Wall sent over a left-wing cross that picked out the run of Evan Guiry again, but he failed to hit the target from 12 yards.

Dungarvan had a chance from a set piece on 63 minutes when Jack Shaw was tripped on the edge of the penalty area by Ruadhan Ball, but the resulting free-kick from Kealan O’Donnell whistled inches wide of Ozog’s left-hand upright.

Bohs keeper Maciej Ozog produced a stunning save to deny the Old Borough outfit three minutes later when the impressive Tiernan Wall played a super ball into the area that was brilliantly controlled by Evan Guiry, but his cracking left-footed shot was tipped around the posts.

GOLDEN GOALS

It was the post that turned saviour for Bohemians with the final action of normal time when Wall put in a brilliant delivery from the right that found Guiry in front of goal, but his close-range header came crashing back off the far post to the sound of the final whistle.

The Kilrush Park eventually got their noses in front seven minutes into the first period of the extra-time when Jack Shaw sent over a left-wing cross that landed on the head of Lee Duggan, and he beat keeper Maciej Ozog with a brilliant header.

A second Dungarvan goal arrived a minute later when Callum Curran got free down the right-side before putting the ball on a plate for Evan Guiry, and finally he applied the golden finish past a helpless Bohs keeper Ozog.

After the game, Mayor of the Metropolitan area of Waterford Cllr. Joe Kelly presented the famed Pen an Brush cup to a delighted Dungarvan captain Jack Shaw as the Old Borough celebrated a brilliant cup success.
