Tommy Lonergan completed a dream international win with two goals as the Republic of Ireland beat England at Turner’s Cross to secure a place in November’s play-offs for the European Championship qualification.
The Waterford striker made a goalscoring Under 21 debut at the start of the window as Ireland beat their rivals for second place in the group 2-0 away from home. He then scored a late winning penalty in a dramatic 4-3 win over Kazakhstan.
But better both of those on Tuesday evening as he scored in each half as Ireland came back from conceding an early goal to beat for the first time at the age grade in a famous 3-1 success.

He will now return to club duty his confidence sky high ahead of Friday evening’s Club Orange FAI Cup semi-final away to Bohemians.
