Blues to face Sligo in season opener

Waterford FC will be on the road for their opening game of the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division, but it won’t be on the opening night of the new season as Keith Long’s side will make the trip to the Showgrounds to take on Sligo Rovers on Saturday, February 15.

In a very tricky start for the Blues, they’ll entertain league champions Shelbourne at the RSC in their first home game on Friday, February 21 before making the long trip north to take on Derry City on the following Friday next, February 28.

The difficult opening to the campaign continues for Long’s men just three days, when they take on Cork City in the first Munster derby of the season on Monday, March 3 with a 7.45pm kick-off before hosting Alan Reynolds’ Bohemians on the following Friday night, March 7.

It’s back on the road for the sixth round of fixtures for the Blues as they take on John Caulfield’s Galway United on Friday, March 14 before playing host to St. Patrick’s Athletic on March 28 before travelling to take on Drogheda United on the following Friday, April 4.

The Blues finish the first series of fixtures when they travel to Tallaght Stadium to take on Shamrock Rovers on April 11. Good Friday will see the Blues host Sligo Rovers at the RSC with a 7.45pm before facing Cork City at Turner’s Cross in the second Munster derby on bank holiday Monday in a game that will kick-off at 5pm.

Waterford will also be making the journey to Tolka Park on Monday, May 5, for a 5pm bank holiday kick-off with home to St. Patrick’s Athletic on the Spraoi August bank holiday weekend, August 1.

The 2025 mid-season break takes place after the round 18 clash at home to Drogheda United on May 30, before kicking off the second-half away to Sligo Rovers once again on Saturday, June 14, at the Showgrounds. The FAI second round to begin on the weekend of August 17.

The final month of the season sees Keith Long’s side at home in three of their four games facing Drogheda United on October 3, Derry City on October 17 before travelling away to St. Patrick’s Athletic on Octobre 24, with the season finishing against Galway United at the RSC on Saturday, November 1.
