After suffering three league defeats on the bounce on Friday night when going down by the odd goal against Shamrock Rovers, Waterford FC return to SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division action on Friday evening when they travel to the capital to take on Bohemian FC.
It will be third time that the Blues have taken on Alan Reynolds’ charges this season and they have the measure of the former Blues assistant boss with two wins from the last two games with a 1-0 win at Dalymount Park and a 2-1 win in the most recent meeting at the RSC.
Padraig Amond got the winner when the side’s met at the North Dublin venue after Reynolds left the Blues to join the Dalymount club in what was Keith Long’s return to his former club with the other game at home ending in a win thanks to goals from Amond and Christie Pattisson.
Commenting briefly on the Bohs game, Keith Long said: “We have to look at Bohs now on Friday and it’s a big game. It’s a big month of August for us. They are all big games for us. We play Bohs, Derry, Sligo and we also have the cup game against Athlone. They are some big games.
“I suppose it was important that tonight we tried to get a result and we just came up short. We have to look to the game now against Bohs. It will be a different Bohs, a different challenge, but one that we’ll try and get ourselves ready for.” Padraig Amond added: “We need to try get back on track in Bohs on Friday night. It’s a big game for us and it’s one that we have to prepare right for. It’s a tight league and there is some big games coming up for us so to start with a win over Bohs would be super. Hopefully we can.
“You can see that if you go on a run of a couple of results, it can put you right up the table. All you have to do is look at Sligo in that regard. I think that we just need to get back to doing the basics on the pitch right and hopefully the results will start taking care of themselves again.”
Adam Queally (Groin), Kyle White (Hamstring) and Sam Sargeant (Fractured hand) all miss out on our trip to Dalymount through injury.
Connor Evans returned to training this week and is available for selection.
