Benny Couto has signed for Waterford FC.
Waterford FC have announced the signing of Benny Couto on a busy day for the club.
In a statement this afternoon, the club said:
"Waterford FC are delighted to announce the signing of Benny Couto ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.
The 22 year-old full-back becomes Jon Daly’s second signing at the RSC, after the signing of Luke Heeney earlier this week.
Couto, a left-footed dynamic full-back, spent the 2025 season with Cork City FC, making 23 appearances for Ger Nash’s side across all competitions - getting four assists to his name whilst at Turners Cross.
The full-back began his career with Oldham Athletic, progressing through their academy ranks before earning his first-team debut away to Salford City in the EFL Trophy in August of 2021. In the same month, he was a half-time substitute for Oldham’s EFL Cup defeat away to Premier League outfit Brentford FC at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Benny made 36 appearances for Oldham before spending time on loan with both The New Saints in Wales & Ashton United in The National League, before signing permanently for Ashton United ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Couto then made the move to the League of Ireland at the start of 2025 with Cork City, as he now makes the move to the Blues for 2026."
The news comes just hours after Waterford announced the permanent signing of Conan Noonan on a three-year deal.
After signing for the Blues, Benny Couto spoke to the club about his move to the RSC. “I’m really happy to be here at Waterford now, and I’m really looking forward to the season and showing everyone what I can do," he said. Hopefully we can go and have a great year at the RSC.”
Blues Head Coach Jon Daly had his say on the transfer as well, noting: “I’m really pleased to welcome Benny to Waterford FC. He’s a dynamic young defender with excellent technical ability and a real hunger to improve.
"Benny fits the profile of the squad we’re building — energetic, adaptable, and committed to pushing standards every day. I’ve no doubts he can make a strong impact here, and I’m looking forward to supporting his development at Waterford FC.”
