Tramore Racecourse has today announced O’Driscoll’s Irish Whiskey as the new sponsor of its Grade 3 New Years Day Chase.
The race has grown in stature in recent years, and it boasts a rich roll of honour.
Dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo won the race four year in a row for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Last year Minella Indo received all the plaudits, after the former Gold Cup hero ran out a narrow winner for Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore.
Speaking on the announcement, Michael Stafford, Managing Director of O’Driscoll’s Irish Whiskey said,’ we are thrilled to partner with the team at Tramore and sponsor such a fantastic race on New Year’s Day. January 1st at Tramore is a great social occasion and we are delighted to have the opportunity to support such a great race as our business is based in the southeast.’
‘The race has grown and evolved over the last five years, and it is now a recognised trail for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.’
Speaking on behalf of Tramore, Racecourse Manager Owen Byrne said,’ this is massive for Tramore Racecourse. We have worked hard trying to improve our track and facilities and this race is viewed by our top trainers, as a legitimate stepping stone for Cheltenham Gold Cup contenders.’
‘We have enjoyed working with Michael and the team at O’Driscoll’s Whiskey. We are thrilled to have them on board for what is our flagship race . Our New Years Day fixture is one of the most important social events during the busy Christmas/New Year period in this part of the country.’
