League of Ireland club Bohemians have an unlikely supporter in New York mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Mamdani was speakiung about a political festival that will be held in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin in June.

“Greetings to my friends at the Robert Tressell Festival,” he said.

“Although there may be an ocean between New York and Dublin, solidarity is a powerful force. As we take one the forces of oligarchy and authoritarianism, it has never been more important that we stand together to protect the daylight and the air we breathe.

“Thank you for your work. And, as always, up the Bohs.”

The video was captioned: "Mayor Mamdani gives Tressell flowers and reveals his favourite Irish football team."

Bohemians' impact goes beyond football and the club is well known for its political activism so Mamdani's support makes sense.

They often use specially designed jerseys to champion social causes, including Palestinian solidarity.

Mamdani is a huge football supporter and has often spoken about his love for Arsenal, who lost out to PSG in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

In the buildup to the match, Mamdani wrote a personal piece on his support of Arsenal for The New York Times-owned Athletic.
