1997 World Champion Ken Doherty has announced his retirement from professional snooker.

The Dublin man turned professional in 1990 and made a further two World finals during his career, as well as three UK Championship deciders.

The 56-year-old confirmed he is stepping back from the main tour, but will continue to play on the senior circuit.
