Cherrywood sports arena will have 8,000 capacity and two Olympic-sized ice rinks

Plans have been unveiled for an 8,000 capacity multi-purpose arena for winter sports in Cherrywood, Dublin, which will include two Olympic-sized ice rinks.

Prime Arena Holdings released CGI images of the concept design for the 'Prime Arena'.

The 8,000-capacity arena will be expandable to 10,500 for major events and concerts.

The arena will be designed by Populous, a group behind numerous global projects including The Sphere in Las Vegas, Aviva Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Yankee Stadium. 

Prime Arena’s planning application is set to be submitted in the coming weeks.

Prime Arena’s new website, live from today, hosts the full CGI gallery, alongside the opportunity for the public to register their interest in 'Season Zero'.

"By register, early supporters get the first opportunity to engage with the project ahead of key milestones in the period ahead," the website states.

Dermot Rigley, founder and chief executive of Prime Arena Holdings, said the reveal marked a defining moment for the project.

“Seeing these images for the first time brings this project to life in a way that words never could. This is a world-class design for a world-class venue, and it gives people across Ireland a real sense of what we are building in Cherrywood.
