Waterford Senior Ladies Football captain in 2025 Emma Murray is to join the Cats in 2026.
The 27-year-old who was part of the Comeragh Rangers side that won back-to-back county titles and go on to win a first Munster Final this year, and who won Waterford’s first All-Star since Rebecca Hallahan did so in 2007, is to join AFLW side Geelong on a two-year contract.
She joins another Waterford Ladies Footballer down under, Ballymacarbry’s Kellyann Hogan who signed for Collingwood also on a two-year contract for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Both Waterford footballers will be looking to help their respective sides finish higher up the table in 2026 after Collingwood finished in 15 place with Geelong finished two places higher up the league ladder.
Aoife Murray is the fourth Irish player to sign for the cats following on from Rachel Kearns from Mayo, Kate Kenny from Offaly and Tipperary’s Aishling Moloney.
She is expected to join up with her new team mates in May to commence pre-season training.
Geelong Cats AFLW Operations and Recruiting Manager Ben Waller said the Club was thrilled to welcome Murray to the Hoops.
“Emma has displayed the traits of a player who we think can develop into a very athletic half-back and wing prospect; she has impressive running capability and is known back home for her great composure and decision-making,” Waller said.
“We can’t wait to welcome Emma to Australia and the Cats and wish her all the best as she completes her campaign back home with Waterford.”
