Youths took scooter and demanded money for its return, Waterford District Court heard

A group of youths allegedly took a scooter from a man and made him pay to get it back, Waterford District Court has heard.
The defendant, who was charged with robbery, was a juvenile at the time of the offence and cannot be named in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling that should a minor turn 18 in the course of a criminal proceeding, they maintain their right to anonymity.
The court heard that on May 29, 2022, gardaí responded to a report from the injured party that while on Newtown Road, he met a group of youths who took his scooter.
They demanded he pay between €10 and €15 to get it back, which he did.
Judge Kevin Staunton put the matter back to June 10 to hear a plea or set a date for a hearing.
