The Waterford Branch of the Irish Kidney Association (IKA) was the recent beneficiary of a generous donation from a Waterford Youthreach group.
A spokesperson for the IKA expressed "heartfelt thanks" to the Youthreach Subla Centre in Waterford for hosting representatives of the organisation.
"We were incredibly grateful to accept a generous cheque from the LCA students who partnered with us as part of their enterprise module this year," said the spokesperson.
"The students worked hard to make this partnership a success," she added.
"They visited local businesses leading up to Shrove Tuesday, with order forms for freshly made pancakes, which were delivered with all the necessary toppings on the day," she added.
They also made beautiful green, white, and gold plaits for St. Patrick’s Day, which were displayed in timber boxes made by the students in woodwork class.
"We are especially grateful to Spar in Ballybeg for their kindness in displaying and selling the plaits on behalf of the Irish Kidney Association," said the spokesperson.
"It was a true pleasure to meet the students and commend them not only for their culinary and creative skills but also for their dedication to supporting our cause," she added. "We would also like to recognize their teacher, Maria O’Shea Enright, who guided them through the entire process."
The IKA's Chairperson, Ray Halligan, expressed sincere appreciation to the students and took the opportunity to highlight the importance of "having the conversation" with loved ones about organ donation. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the students on behalf of the branch.
"A big thank you for the warm reception we received from the staff, the tea cakes and chat were much appreciated," said the IKA spokesperson.
"The Waterford Branch executive committee would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in raising funds for our local branch," she added. "Your generosity and hard work are deeply appreciated."
