Works planned for prominent Waterford city street

The public are being asked for their views on the developments on O'Connell Street.

The public are being asked for their views on a proposed development on O’Connell Street in Waterford City.

Works involved include the refurbishment of a pair of terraced two‐bay three and four storey properties at No.70 O’Connell Street and No.71 O’Connell Street. 

Waterford City and County Council are proposing the construction of a development consisting of one retail/commercial unit to the ground floor of 71 O’Connell Street and an extension to the rear of 70 O’Connell Street to provide a total of five residential units.

These units will consist of three one-bed studio apartments and two two-bed apartments.

Proposals also include a number of supporting development works, such as the addition of bicycle parking and amenity areas, boundary treatments and landscaping.

Two additional public consultations opened last week, both proposing significant residential developments in the city.

Proposed at 15 Waterside is the change of use from commercial to residential of an existing two-storey terraced building. 

The refurbishment and alteration of the building will provide four residential apartment units consisting of three one-bed apartments and one two-bed apartment.

The additional construction of four one-bed residential apartment units to the rear yard area will provide a total of eight apartment units within the overall development.

Separately, at The Glen/Bridge Street and numbers 6, 7 and 8 on Anne Street, it is proposed to develop a total of 23 residential apartment units.

17 of these residential apartment units will comprise of 12 one-bed apartments and five two-bed apartments. 

The refurbishment of 6, 7 and 8 Anne Street will provide for the remaining three one-bed apartments and three two-bed duplex apartments.
