Works on South East Greenway progressing

Works along the South East Greenway are progressing swimmingly, according to the latest reports.
At the Piltown Municipal District meeting, Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council Denis Malone gave an overview of the ongoing works.
In November 2023, Glas Civil Engineering Ltd. began works on Lot 5A on the Greenway, the 5.5km section from Ferrybank to Curraghmore.
According to Mr Malone: "Over the past few months works on the permanent greenway carpark at Ballyverneen, Glenmore have advanced near completion, the remaining works, which includes the installation of a perimeter railing and public lighting, when complete will facilitate the full opening of this 39 bay car park.
"Significant progress has also been made along the main-line with some 85% of the 5.5km now ready to receive the final surfacing layer."
Mr Malone said that works were progressing on all agricultural crossing locations.
He said: "The Kilmurry Lane access ramp has also advanced and public lighting columns from Ferrybank to the access ramp have now been installed. The boundary screen fencing and general fencing along the line is also nearing completion."
He added: "The programme remains on track for the works contract to be completed by the end of the year, thereafter, this section of greenway will be subject to a safety audit and minor finishing out works to facilitate the opening of same to the public in Q.1 2025."
The Project Landowner Liaison Officer is continuing to engage with landowners along the greenway in relation to boundary treatment and crossing paths.
Finally, engineering team Fehily Timoney and Company Ltd. are advancing the detail design on the remaining sections of the greenway.
