Waterford's Winterval records almost one million visitors

Crowds gather across John Roberts Square for Winterval

995,000 people visited Waterford for Winterval 2025, according to mobile phone data provided to Waterford City and County Council via a third-party network provider.

The figures were recorded up to December 15, with footfall figures from the final days of the festival yet to be compiled.

Winterval Festival Director Trevor Darmody paid tribute to Waterford City.

“As Winterval 2025 comes to an end, these figures are something everyone in Waterford can be proud of. Almost a million people were in the city before we even count the final days,” Mr Darmody said.

“It shows the power of Winterval to bring people together, support local businesses and create unforgettable Christmas experiences. I want to thank our team, our partners, our volunteers and the public for making this year so special.

“I want to sincerely thank our sponsors for their continued belief in Winterval, along with Waterford City and County Council for their ongoing support.

“Huge credit is due to the event organisers, performers, traders and everyone who participates, as well as the volunteers who go above and beyond to ensure the festival runs smoothly. Winterval is a true team effort, and that spirit is felt right across the city.”

Winterval 2025 also helped to raise funds for Tinteán Housing Association, a support service for women and families who have been made homeless.
