Waterford's Theatre Royal to celebrate Culture Night 

Waterford’s Theatre Royal is joining venues across Ireland for the twenty-first edition of Culture Night on Friday, September 18.

Culture Night is an annual, all-island free-to-the-public event, taking place each year on the second-to-last Friday of September and funded by the Arts Council.

Theatre Royal is hosting an inclusive, family-friendly and entertaining late-night performance.

These events are free to attend, and no booking is required.

From 5pm to 7pm Music Generation Waterford will take over with performances from the MGW Wind Band, Harpers and Pipers, as well as a relaxed Open Mic Session.

Young musicians, poets and spoken word artists aged up to 18 years; perform or come along to celebrate young creative talent from across Waterford!

In 2026, The Arts Council’s Culture Night Late offered funding to support innovative, late-night events starting after 9pm on Culture Night so this year, Theatre Royal will host an additional late-night programme of events to celebrate Culture Night.

Slip of the Tongue is a high-energy night of spoken word, poetry, live music, drag, and comedy curated by poet and playwright Wayne Power and will be on from 10pm to 11:30pm

Headlining on the night will be The Poetry Kiln, founded by Dublin poet Dave Hynes.

From 10:30pm to 12:30pm Luca Records & Decks will present Theatre Vestibule An exciting late-night soundtrack curated by Harry O'Neill of Luca Records & Decks, featuring a headline performance from The Slinkies (Cilian Jacob and Ken Lally, previously known as VAGUE).

Throughout the evening, Alien Nation will take over the Vestibule, along with The Haus of Goofy.

Expect exuberant drag costumes and make-up creating a live canvas to the music for the evening.
