The auction for the new wind farm based off the coast of Waterford is set to take place in Quarter 2, of this year.
Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy, Darragh O’Brien confirmed the news in the Dáil.
Minister O'Brien said that the "start of Ireland’s second offshore wind auction, known as ORESS Tonn Nua, will commence Q2 2025".
The “Tonn Nua” site, 12 kilometres off the Waterford coast, is set to deliver 900 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, saving 1.8 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year after construction, through offshore substation platforms built by EirGrid.
