Waterford TD calls for emergency water supplies as Bonmahon outages continue
Emergency water supplies have been requested as the water outages in the Bonmahon area continue
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, Deputy David Cullinane has called on Uisce Éireann to immediately provide emergency water supplies to households and businesses affected by the ongoing water outages in the Bonmahon area.
Deputy Cullinane said he has been engaging with Uisce Éireann throughout the outage, while local Sinn Féin Councillor Catherine Burke has also been in regular contact with the utility on behalf of affected residents.
Deputy Cullinane said: “The ongoing disruption is causing enormous frustration for households and businesses across the Bonmahon area. People have now been without water for an unacceptable length of time and deserve clear information and practical support."
Referring to his party colleague, he said: “Cllr Burke has contacted Uisce Éireann on a number of occasions seeking updates and stressing the urgency of restoring supply. While I have now been advised that repair works are expected to be completed by 4pm today [Wednesday, July 29] residents were also given a similar completion time yesterday, only for the outage to continue. That has understandably undermined confidence,” he continued.
Given the length of time people living and working in the Bonmahon area have been without water, Deputy Cullinane has requested that Uisce Éireann immediately provide a water tanker and bottled water for the affected residents and businesses in the area.
“People appreciate that faults can occur, but they also expect timely communication, realistic restoration times and appropriate contingency measures when outages become prolonged. I will continue to engage with Uisce Éireann until water supplies have been fully restored and will keep residents updated as further information becomes available,” Deputy Cullinane finished.
