The students from St Declan's Community College showcased their athletic prowess recently when some of the school's athletes competed in the East Munster cross country championships.

The event was held recently in Carriganore and among the students who qualified for the Munster Championships from that event were: Minor Boys: Colum Power (4th), Adam Casey (5th), Liam Phelan (8th) Team 1st place Junior Boys: Luke Walsh (5th), Andrew Walsh (10th) Team 1st place, Intermediate Boys: Jack Casey (3rd), Gearóid Power (12th) Team 4th place Senior Boys: Cillian Cloney (5th), Finlay McHardy (15th). The Munster Championships took place in Tramore Valley Park, in Cork.

A school spokesperson commented to Waterford News & Star said it was a mucky, challenging course but all the athletes ran their hearts out. Seventeen athletes qualified for the All-Ireland finals in Galway. 

"Well done to the minor boys team who came second," said the spokesperson.  Luke Walsh, came 10th in the junior boys event and the team came third while Jack Casey came 10th in the intermediate boys event.
