Waterford sees highest increase in commercial vacancy rates of all counties
Commercial vacancy rates in Waterford surpassed those in 16 counties, including each of its neighbouring counties and the capital
Waterford's commercial vacancy rate has risen above the national average, with new figures showing commercial vacancy rates across the county have reached 15.5%.
The figure was recorded in June of this year and represents an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the same period last year, the highest increase seen during this period across all counties.
Nationally, the figures show an average decrease of 0.1 percentage points over the same period to an average 14.5% vacancy rate this June, according to the latest GeoDirectory commercial vacancy rates report.
The report also highlighted the stark difference in towns across Waterford, showing a commercial vacancy rate of 20.4% in Dungarvan and a much lower rate of 12.1% in Tramore.
Commercial vacancy rates in Waterford surpassed those in 16 counties, including each of its neighbouring counties and the capital, with Cork, Kilkenny and Wexford and Dublin all well below the national average and Tipperary just 0.1% above.
A total of 30,611 commercial properties were classified as vacant across the country in the second quarter of this year, with the highest rates seen in the West and North-West of the country, with Donegal recording the highest vacancy rate at 20.7%, a small margin above the rates seen in Dungarvan.
