Pupils from one school in County Waterford entered the political arena recently but it was all facilitated by Cllr Niamh O'Donovan.

The children from 2nd to 6th Class in St. Mary’s National School, in Touraneena, first enjoyed a trip to the cinema to view 'Home Alone 2', which they very much enjoyed.

After the cinema, they were invited to the Civic Offices in Dungarvan by Cllr. O’Donovan.

While there the pupils learned about what the council does and how they can help their own local community.

The children took part in a lively debate and proposed the motion: 'Should homework be banned?'.

There also a vote held to decide which chocolate was the most popular with Dairy Milk emerging as a clean winner!

The pupils also received a goody bag.

It was a great learning experience for the school's current Student Council and for those who will be part of it in the future.

The school expressed appreciation to the Parents Council for their fantastic work throughout the year in making trips like this one possible and gratitude was also conveyed to Cllr O’Donovan for all her time and assistance.
