Waterford recorded the second-highest number of adults in emergency accommodation since the monthly homelessness report started in 2016.
According to the Monthly Homelessness Report, published by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, 121 adults were counted in local authority emergency accommodation for Waterford in September 2025.
While this is only one more person than the second-highest of 2025 and three more than in August, it represents the highest figure since February 2018, when 123 people were in emergency accommodation.
And, it is the highest September on record.
Waterford remains the top county in the South East for homeless adults, followed by Tipperary (87), Wexford (52), Kilkenny (45) and Carlow (41).
The Déise had more than twice the number of homeless adults as Wexford and almost three times as many as Carlow in September 2025.
County breakdowns of families and children are not available, but figures are reported monthly by region.
The South East region recorded 72 families in emergency accommodation, including 120 children in September.
The local authority emergency accommodation figures were counted between September 22 and September 28, 2025.
