Waterford Penney's store evacuated due to microwave fire

Penney's in John Roberts Square, Waterford City, briefly closed at lunchtime on Thursday due to a minor fire that took place in the building.

The store reopened following an evacuation that took place.

Shoppers were informed that a minor microwave fire had taken place in the staff area upstairs.

Fire brigade units attended the scene.

Staff and shoppers temporarily waited outside the store while the issue was being resolved.

The store reopened shortly after and business resumed as usual.
