Waterford parish celebrates the canonisation of St Carlo Acutis and St Pier Girogio
Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.
The canonisation of St Carlo Acutis and St Pier Girogio, which was performed by Pope Leo XIV, took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
To celebrate the great occasion a service was held in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Barronstrand Street, Waterford.
Wonderful to see such a large crowd join us as we spent time in adoration together.
After a talk by Youth & Young Adult Ministry Officer, Nodlaig Lillis, Sr. Kathryn Press led us in a Scripture passage very close to Pier Giorgio’s heart, from 1 Corinthians 13.
He transcribed this passage and always kept it with him.
Thanks to Olivia Elliott and her team of helpers, Liam, Roisin, Amelia, Chloe, Michael and Jack for leading us beautifully in the rosary and prayers through the intercession of our new saints.
After a time of silent prayer and beautiful music by Fr Patrick Cahill, our time of adoration drew to a close.
The 250 people present had the opportunity to be blessed by a First Class Relic of Carlo Acutis.
May our young saints continue to guide and inspire us always.
