Two areas of Waterford had direct links to King Charles of England recently with the award-winning garden at the world-renowned Chelsea Flower Show having being created with the help of two proud Déise men.

World-renowned wood carver, John Hayes from Ballybricken and Christopher Dee, from Stradbally, helped created the masterpiece, wooden sculpted centre-piece of the garden while.

Congratulations were conveyed to both men on their achievement with people in Stradbally and Dungarvan - where Christopher now lives - expressing great pride in Christopher for being part of the gold medal winning Garden of the Year.

The garden, inspired by renowned designer Sarah Eberle, was created to represent the forgotten countryside on urban fringes.

The construction of the sculpture was led by Welsh chainsaw carver and wood sculptor, Christopher Wood, who was closely aided by Heather Compton in addition to the two Déíse men.

"It was an incredible experience for me and an unbelievable opportunity," said Christopher.

He also expressed gratitude to Chris Woods, John Hayes and Heather Crompton for inviting him to be part of the team for what was a mammoth project.

"It will be great to have the team back together again for our upcoming Celtic Carvers show in August," he said.
