Waterford journalist scoops two major national awards

It was a case of double celebration for one local newspaper journalist who secured not one but two major awards at this year's Local Ireland Media Awards.
Darragh Murphy who is a journalist with Waterford News & Star and waterford-news.ie first scooped the award for 'Young Journalist of the Year' at the prestigious ceremony which took place on Thursday, September 11 in Mullingar.
However, there was an added reason for the Waterford team in attendance to celebrate as Darragh also secured the very prestigious award for 'Best News Story', for his story about a fundraising campaign that led to over €10,000 being crowdfunded in support of the woman behind what Clonmel District Court judge Brian O’Shea described as a ‘House of Horrors’.
Waterford News & Star is part of the Irish Times Regionals group and in addition to the two awards for Darragh members of the team in the Roscommon Herald and Laois Nationalist also won awards for 'Best Advertising Campaign' and 'Best Headline', respectively.
Waterford News & Star also was also nominated for awards in two other categores: 'Columnist of the Year' (Fr Liam Power's 'Question of Faith' column) and 'Best Supplement' ('Pride of the Déise).
The Carlow Nationalist - another sister title of Waterford News & Star - was also nominated for an award on the night for 'Feature Journalist Of the Year'.
