Waterford GP nurses attend study day to improve care for patients with chronic disease

General Practice nurses from across Waterford attended an upskilling day in Kilkenny to improve the standard of care for patients suffering from chronic diseases. 

Nurses from more than 100 practices in the South East, including nurses from Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, and South Tipperary, in addition to Waterford, were in attendance.

The study day aimed to help nurses across the region to aid those struggling with various chronic diseases, to making a lasting impact on health and well-being in communities.

Speakers at the event included Judy Ryan, Director, HSE’s Nursing, Midwifery, Planning and Development Unit in the South East, and Liz Carroll, the Professional Development Co-ordinator for GP nurses who said: “The HSE is delighted that so many GP nurses took time out of their busy practices to join us. Their commitment to advancing patient care and enhancing their skills in this vital area is truly commendable.”

Ms Carroll said that the impact that nurses have “on quality of life and in assisting our patients to live well within their own communities is invaluable.” 

She continued to say that the focus of the day was on increasing collaboration and communication between health service bodies to “ultimately improve patient care and outcomes, ensuring that every interaction leaves a lasting positive impact.”
