Waterford gardaí issue advice to music-lovers ahead of festival season
Ticket scams are prevalent this time of year, especially for sought-after gigs. Here is how you stay safe
Waterford gardaí have issued advice to festival goers buying tickets ahead of the summer.
Gardaí are asking music fans to be vigilant when buying tickets, especially for sought-after gigs.
“Tickets for these events are limited and sell out quickly, leaving fans disappointed and creating a perfect storm for scammers to take advantage.
"When buying tickets, either in person or online, you should be absolutely certain that the seller is genuine. There are several steps you can take to protect yourself when buying tickets online and to help you figure out if the seller is genuine,” said a garda spokesperson.
They are advising the public to buy from the official source, use secure payment methods and check the rules around resale.

“Be wary of deals that are too good to be true – If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers often lure buyers with extremely low prices,” said the garda spokesperson.
Red flags to look out for include a seller who pressures you to act quickly and does not give you information about the tickets.
This is to create a sense of urgency so you will act without checking.
If you think you have already been the victim of a scam, contact your bank or card provider immediately.
Then contact An Garda Síochána so they can investigate.
“Ticket scams and other forms of fraud are a matter for An Garda Siochana, so make sure to report it to any Garda Station, as you may stop it happening to someone else. If you suspect a scam, report it to the event organiser, the ticketing platform, the social media platform or the Gardaí. This will also help prevent others from falling victim, said the garda spokesperson.
