Waterford firefighters acknowledged ahead of national challenge

Members of fire crews from across County Waterford have been acknowledged and praised ahead of their participation in a national challenge event this coming weekend.

Sinn Féin TD, Deputy Conor McGuinness acknowledged the group who were also highlighted on the Waterford City Community Group Facebook page.

"Best of luck to our own local firefighters as they head to the National Extrication Challenge this Saturday in Hackettstown, hosted by Rescue Organisation Ireland," said Deputy McGuinness in the post.

The team involved in the challenge have been preparing since February and are looking forward to taking part in their first competition. 

The challenge will bring together firefighters from Dungarvan, Cappoquin, Lismore and Waterford City and there were comments of support and appreciation online, to all involved from members of the public.

The event will involve two timed, 25-minute scenarios where crews will have to safely remove casualties from vehicles in challenging conditions.

There will be a strong emphasis on casualty care during the challenge.
