A college student who was delivering drugs dressed as a Just Eat driver will have his charge struck out if he makes a donation to the court poor box.
Mabarak Alabi (23) of Apt 11, Block 2, Riverwalk Apartments, Waterford, was before Judge John Cheatle at Waterford District Court charged with possession of drugs and possession with the intention to sell or supply at the Bilberry Greenway carpark on July 9, 2025.
Sergeant John Phelan told the court that at around 11pm on the night of the incident, members of the drug unit were on patrol.
They observed the defendant on an e-scooter, posing as a Just Eat delivery driver and “acting in a suspicious manner”.
The gardaí stopped and searched the defendant and found €558 worth of cannabis in individual bags.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham said his client was a college student with “little to no street cred or streetwise,” just trying to make “easy money”.
He said his client gained nothing from the transactions but a “learning experience", and “all he had to his name was an e-scooter”.
Mr Cunningham said his client was “a bright individual” but “desperate” to pay for his college fees and that he cooperated fully with gardaí on the night.
Judge Cheatle ordered the defendant to pay €100 to the court poor box.
If he does so by December 2, the matter will be struck out.
