West Waterford councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy has criticised Uisce Éireann for failing to repair a major water leak in Tallow.

The issue is at the top of Chapel Street, and the councillor said water has been flowing for more than a month.

“At a time when our Council is carrying out some great road improvements around Tallow, it is a real pity to see water pouring out of the ground and straight into a drain,” he said.

“This leak has been left running for over a month while people in the area continue to experience frequent water outages.

"It makes no sense and it is a terrible waste of treated water,” said Cllr Mulcahy.

Cllr. Mulcahy said the leak is causing damage to the roads and undermining the improvement works by the council.

He said the fact that it has not been resolved suggests a lack of urgency on the part of Uisce Éireann.

“I have reported this issue several times, as have others, but nothing has been done. Uisce Éireann needs to act immediately and get this repaired before more damage is caused.

"The people of Tallow deserve better than to see clean water running down the street while their taps run dry,” said Cllr. Mulcahy.
